Retro Food Tour

Experience the blast from the past of traditional Czech cuisine! Local spots which seemed as if they were stuck in the communist times of former Czechoslovakia.

Experience the blast from the past of traditional Czech cuisine! Local spots which seemed as if they were stuck in the communist times of former Czechoslovakia.

We prepared a selection of genuine local spots that are otherwise almost impossible to find in tourist areas. Something entirely different from typical tourist spots.

  • “Nakládaný hermelín” and other traditional pub snacks
  • “Chlebíčky,” uniquely Czech open-face sandwiches
  • “Laskonka,” “Větrník,” and other genuine local variants of sweet pastries (instead of Hungarian “Trdelník,” which floated Prague’s center recently)
  • high-quality small batch brewed beer tasting
  • often wrongfully overlooked Moravian wine
  • “Kontušovka” and other Austro-Hungarian Empire-era spirits which are not easy to find nowadays
  • Czech Coca-Cola alternative “Kofola” and raspberry soda “Malinovka”
  • coffee preparation styles from times when espresso wasn’t available in Czechoslovakia

The tour visits 4 thematic spots, including a pub from before WW2 times, a cake shop where all grandmas from Prague have their weekly meetings, a famous Prague delicatessen with a history of 1916, and a socialist-era wine bar with draft wine from Moravian Slovakia region.

You will also discover some of the most beautiful passages during the walking transfers between our tour venues. We’ll provide interesting historical facts and recommend numerous other Prague pubs, restaurants, and cafes worth visiting.

Although all tastings will be in small portions, we strongly advise you to come with enough space in your stomach to taste as much of Our cuisine as possible. #CheatDayEveryday
